Fall League/Apparel Form
9-12th grade girls and parents:
St. Michael Fall League begins October 19th. We are still waiting for the schedules and liability forms to be sent out from the league. I will get those out to everyone as soon as I get them. I am asking each girl that would like to play to pay me 25.00 by Friday 10/10. The remaining amount the Girls Basketball program is covering. Once they pay I will let them know what team they will be on for the league and they will get a practice jersey from which they can wear for fall league and then keep for the season.
9-12th grade girls and parents: Our Heggies Pizza Fundraiser will start November 17th (first day of tryouts). This fundraiser will go until December 8th and all pizzas will be delivered to the high school and distributed to the girls on December 18th. Stay tuned for more information on this at the winter sports meeting!
9th-12th grade girls and parents: Winter sports meeting is November 3rd. Our Activities Director Dan Pratt will announce the time of the meeting as the date gets closer.
Tryouts/First week of practice: Tryouts start on November 17th at 3:15. Due to a great number of girls expected to come out for basketball this year, tryouts will be just for 9th-12th graders.
All parents involved in basketball:
I am attaching an apparel order form. If you are interested in purchasing Rockford Basketball clothing, it can all be done online via the instructions on the form attached. It is a very easy process. All of the clothing will be delivered to school and then distributed. Our Lids Rep says it will be here around the beginning of the season. The Boys Basketball Program will also have an online store opening sometime next week. This will have similar clothing items on it except fewer women's options. This is also different than the shoe online order form I sent out earlier this year!
New things happening!
I am Kelsey Ortmann. I am the new head girls basketball coach at Rockford! I am going into my second year of teaching at Rockford High. I teach health and physical education! I previously coached basketball for two years at Rogers High School and the year before that at Andover High School. My brother in-law Andy Ortmann will be by assistant also the JV coach for the year!
I wanted to update all of you of things that have been going on since the end of the school year!
The first week of summer we had a fun week putting on our Youth Girls Basketball Camp. We had about 45 girls at camp with the high school players helping coach. It was a fun week full of basketball and laughs!
Monday and Wednesday mornings the high school girls come for a two hour basketball workout before heading to Rocket Power. I am very impressed with the girls dedication.
We played in two Breakdown tournaments this summer. One in St. Michael and one in St. Louis Park. We went 1-2 at STMA and won the tournament at St. Louis Park. It was so much fun!
We will be playing in a fall league at St. Michael this fall. We will have two teams, a JV and Varsity team. I am excited for the girls to play in this league.
We will be needing a couple parent volunteeres to help work concessions this fall. Right now, we are signed up to work the volleyball games on 9/9 and 9/18. This is a great way for the girls to show their support to the volleyball players as well as help raise money for the girls basketball program.
Another reminder about our 300 hour club. Everyone should have received emails earlier in the summer about logging their hours. We would like a mid-summer checkin. Players can earn an additional two hours by emailing a mid-summer check in by July 31st.
I am so excited for this upcoming season! Please let me know if you have any questions regarding anything! I will continue to update on this page as often as I can.
*Remember, the deposits you make in the summer are the withdrawals you can take during the season.
The Lady Rockets' coaching staff would like to thank all of our parents, fans, and community members for a great season. The support we received throughout the year was amazing and it meant a great deal to us. We finished the year with a record of 13-14, going 12 and 5 in the last 17 games. We finished our CMC schedule with a 9-5 record, giving us a 3rd place finish. We are all very proud of the effort and dedication shown by this team, as they strove day in and day out to make themselves and the team better.
Our team banquet is on Sunday, April 13th @ 5:00 pm in the High School commons.
Almost Midway through
We are now heading into the heart of our Central Minnesota Conference Schedule. We are looking forward to some great games. For the next few weeks we have a nice stretch of home games, which makes this next stretch very important for us as a team. Being almost the midpoint of the season, we wanted to remind all of the players in our program that eating healthy and getting proper rest is extremely important.
Sports and all school related activities teach our student-athletes the value of time management as well. Our players have done a great job thus far of managing the rigors of academics and athletics.
Its also always a good idea at this point in the season to take a step back and look at your pre season goals (team and individual). Maybe you have accomplished an individual goal, or maybe you are still working towards it. Either way, taking a moment to think about how you reached, or how you are going to reach that goal is important. And always if you are seeking advice on how to improve or if you have questions, do not hesitate to ask. Also ask yourself, what can I do to help my teammates? Basketball is a team sport so we must always look at it from that perspective.
Make it a great day!

Great Offseason! Additional News.
I just wanted to get in touch with you all before the school year starts. We had a really great summer this offseason. I saw a great deal of commitment from our student athletes to getting better and increasing their skills. The dedication was fantastic and I know we will see the difference this upcoming year. We also saw a great deal of leadership from girls in our Basketball program, we came in ready to work and push our teammates.
Some things of note for this upcoming season, the boys and girls basketball seasons have flip flopped. The boys will be starting when the girls usually start practice and vice versa. This will be commonplace for the next 3 seasons. Our Holiday Tournament this year is in Jordan, with the following teams: Jordan, Rogers, and Moose Lake. I am pushing the due date for the Rising Rockets 300 Hour club back to the start of our season. I hope you've been keeping track of your basketball and weight room hours! Let me know if you need another 300 hour club sheet.
Fundraising: We are running the football concession stand on September 20th. We need 1 adult (along with myself) and 4 players. We can break it up 1st half and 2nd half just like we did for boys basketball games. If you would like to sign up let me know.
Good luck heading into the fall sports season! I know you all will do a fantastic job.
We hope to see all girls basketball players (C- team, JV, and Varsity) and their families at our end of the season Awards Banquet on April 14th at 5 pm, in the High School commons. It will be catered by Reds cafe, so if you would like a meal please RSVP before April 5th. Please email me, email@example.com to be added to the girls basketball email list to receive additional banquet details.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Calder and Palmer named to the All Section team

End of the year Meeting
We will be having our end of the year team meeting tomorrow after school in the High School media center. Each player must bring the following items:
Home Jersey and shorts
Away Jersey and shorts
We will be voting for end of the year awards (Rookie of the Year, MVP, Hardest Worker, and Most Improved). We wil also go over our program plans and goals for the summer.
At tomorrow's meeting, each non senior has the opportunity to sign up for a meeting time with the coaching staff. We have two dates available for sign up, Thursday, March 7th, or Tuesday, March 12th. The meeting length will be no longer than 10 minutes, and parents are encouraged to attend. Players from C, JV and Varsity will be given an evaluation form describing strengths and areas for improvement over the summer. These meetings will take place at the High School. Think of these as school conferences, but for basketball. Regardless of attendence, each player will receive an evaluation form.
Individual Meeting dates and times:
Thursday, March 7th- 10 minute time slots starting at 3:15 ending at 5:15
Tuesday, March 12th- 10 minute time slots staring at 4:15 ending at 6:15
If you have a date and time that would work best for you, please email me or relay that information to your daughter so she can sign up at our end of the year meeting.
Banquet information will be passed out at the meeting tomorrow.
Hello everyone,Let me start of by saying, wow. That was a fun game! The grit and determination the girls showed was awesome. And the crowd was amazing, the jump rope kids and our rocket buddies starting chats and getting loud was great. The noise in the gym was a great benefit to us. There were times the players on the court couldn't hear anything from the sideline because of the excitement from the crowd. The win puts us at 3-4 in the conference and 7-10 overall.
Friday was our second 3 game sweep in a row! The teams are really playing hard in practice and it is carrying over to our games. The C-team is moving the ball very well and creating a lot of turnovers. The JV is really starting to click and their physical play and toughness got them the win on Friday.
Coach Melchert update, he will be back this week. Our next game is Thursday against BBE in BBE.
Pierz on Friday
I just wanted to say thanks for coming out and supporting us against Kimball last night. It was a great team victory, and I am proud of how the girls kept battling after a cold start shooting. Shooting for any team will be up and down, but one thing that is always in our control is our defensive effort. That is what will keep us in basketball games regardless of how we are shooting.
Congrats to our C-team and JV as well. It was so much fun coaching the C-team, and seeing them come together for a big victory; especially down the stretch when all I could hear was cheers from either our C-team fans or JV fans. It was a lot of fun to see and hear!
We have another great test coming up on Friday night against Pierz. Pierz got us by 7 points up at their place in the first conference game of the year. They are sitting at 4-2 in conference play, while our win against Kimball puts us at 2-4 in conference standings.
See you all on Friday for another great night of Basketball!
