7th and 8th Grade Basketball Meeting
On Tuesday, November 24th, there is basketball meeting for all 7th and 8th grade boys and girls basketball players. The meeting will be held at the Rockford Community Center at 3:15-4:15.
This meeting is very important for the players to attend because important information and jersey handout will be conducted.
Also, practices for both of these 7th and 8th grade boys and girls basketball players will begin on Monday, November 30th in the RCC at 3:10.
Fall league and Shoe order form
We had a girls basketball meeting on Wednesday and had a great turn out. I asked the girls how many are interested in playing fall ball and it looks like everyone does. We will be playing at St. Michael High School through Breakdown. We do not have the schedule yet, but the dates are:
October 18th, October 25th, Nov. 1st and Nov. 8th. The cost is 25.00 per player. This will cover about half the cost and the girls' program will cover the rest. Checks can be made out to Rockford Girls Basketball and brought to me at anytime before the league starts!
Also, some girls mentioned they wanted to new shoes. Again, this is not required, however I did set up a store for girls who would like to order Nike basketball shoes through Lids. Lids was who we went with last year for shoes. They are shipped right to your house after your order them online and they give the girls a discount rather than buying them in the store. The girls will be given a shoe order form at school.
I wanted to thank everyone for their encouragement and support through out this past season. Even though our record did not always show it, our girls made tremendous strides of improvement.
It is the best compliment as a coach when you are told by complete strangers who have never watched our games before that our girls worked so hard during games. I could not agree more! The girls made all of our coaching staff proud.
Our banquet is being help April 8th in the high school commons at 6:00 p.m. Countryside Catering will be catering our meal. Players are paid for by the program, but any additional family members are $8.75 a person.
I am excited for a night to acknowledge our girls and their success this past season!
See you then!
Great win yesterday! Parent's Night Friday
All three of our teams battled at Eden Valley last night. They have a great program! JV came back from an 18-0 deficit in the first half, to lose the game by two. C-squad tripled their points in the second half than their first half and varsity came out full strength and got a huge win to the number one team in the conference.
The girls are working so hard, it is nice to see it paying off on and off the court!
Excited for our first home game in a month on Friday and to see all of our parents for Parent's night.
Continuing to work
The girls have done a great job continuing to work hard each and every day.I am so proud of them for this. It is fun to see improvements in each and every girl.
We are hungry for a win, which I know is coming our way!
First week in the books!
We have one week of our season in the books! The girls have worked so hard this past week. I am anxious to get back in the gym tomorrow for a morning practice! Only nine days until our first game against Norwood Young America at home! We would love to see the Rockets' fan support there!
Schedules are up! Every player should have received one, but if need be, you can access them here.
Fall League/Apparel Form
9-12th grade girls and parents:
St. Michael Fall League begins October 19th. We are still waiting for the schedules and liability forms to be sent out from the league. I will get those out to everyone as soon as I get them. I am asking each girl that would like to play to pay me 25.00 by Friday 10/10. The remaining amount the Girls Basketball program is covering. Once they pay I will let them know what team they will be on for the league and they will get a practice jersey from which they can wear for fall league and then keep for the season.
9-12th grade girls and parents: Our Heggies Pizza Fundraiser will start November 17th (first day of tryouts). This fundraiser will go until December 8th and all pizzas will be delivered to the high school and distributed to the girls on December 18th. Stay tuned for more information on this at the winter sports meeting!
9th-12th grade girls and parents: Winter sports meeting is November 3rd. Our Activities Director Dan Pratt will announce the time of the meeting as the date gets closer.
Tryouts/First week of practice: Tryouts start on November 17th at 3:15. Due to a great number of girls expected to come out for basketball this year, tryouts will be just for 9th-12th graders.
All parents involved in basketball:
I am attaching an apparel order form. If you are interested in purchasing Rockford Basketball clothing, it can all be done online via the instructions on the form attached. It is a very easy process. All of the clothing will be delivered to school and then distributed. Our Lids Rep says it will be here around the beginning of the season. The Boys Basketball Program will also have an online store opening sometime next week. This will have similar clothing items on it except fewer women's options. This is also different than the shoe online order form I sent out earlier this year!
New things happening!
I am Kelsey Ortmann. I am the new head girls basketball coach at Rockford! I am going into my second year of teaching at Rockford High. I teach health and physical education! I previously coached basketball for two years at Rogers High School and the year before that at Andover High School. My brother in-law Andy Ortmann will be by assistant also the JV coach for the year!
I wanted to update all of you of things that have been going on since the end of the school year!
The first week of summer we had a fun week putting on our Youth Girls Basketball Camp. We had about 45 girls at camp with the high school players helping coach. It was a fun week full of basketball and laughs!
Monday and Wednesday mornings the high school girls come for a two hour basketball workout before heading to Rocket Power. I am very impressed with the girls dedication.
We played in two Breakdown tournaments this summer. One in St. Michael and one in St. Louis Park. We went 1-2 at STMA and won the tournament at St. Louis Park. It was so much fun!
We will be playing in a fall league at St. Michael this fall. We will have two teams, a JV and Varsity team. I am excited for the girls to play in this league.
We will be needing a couple parent volunteeres to help work concessions this fall. Right now, we are signed up to work the volleyball games on 9/9 and 9/18. This is a great way for the girls to show their support to the volleyball players as well as help raise money for the girls basketball program.
Another reminder about our 300 hour club. Everyone should have received emails earlier in the summer about logging their hours. We would like a mid-summer checkin. Players can earn an additional two hours by emailing a mid-summer check in by July 31st.
I am so excited for this upcoming season! Please let me know if you have any questions regarding anything! I will continue to update on this page as often as I can.
*Remember, the deposits you make in the summer are the withdrawals you can take during the season.
